Sign In, Username, Password

Sign In only if you have a Pay.gov account.

The first time you sign in from a device and browser you must to verify your identity.

  1. Click Sign In at the top of a page.
  2. Enter your username and password.
  3. Click the Sign In button.
  4. On the verification page, select either One-time Security Code or Secret Question.
    • One-time Security Code:
      The code is emailed to you. Enter the code in the field.
    • Secret Question:
      The question and answer were created when your account was set up on another device.
      The question is displayed.
      Enter your answer in the field.
  5. Click Verify.
  6. On the Verification Complete message:
    • Choose to have your device and browser recognized when you sign in again. You will not need to verify your identity again.
      — or —
    • Choose to not have your device and brower recognized. You will have to verify your identity each time you sign in.

If you sign in from a different device or brower, you must verify your identity again.

Your username cannot be changed.

If you forgot your username:

  1. Click Sign In at the top of a page.
  2. Click the Email it to me link under Forgot your username.
  3. Enter the email address for your account (in your My Account Profile).
  4. The email lists all usernames associated with the email address.
  5. Open Pay.gov's home page by clicking the link under What to do next.
  6. Click Sign In at the top of the page and then enter your username and password.

Your account may be deleted because it wasn't used for a long time, or your password expired. Passwords must be changed every 12 months and you have to agree to the Rules of Behavior again.

If your account was deleted you will have to create a new one.

If your password expired and you sign in:

  1. The Reset Password page opens.
  2. Answer your secret question. If you forgot the answer, contact Pay.gov Customer Support.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. Enter your new password, and confirm it.
  5. Click Submit.
  6. Sign In.

If you forgot your password, it must be changed.

  1. Click Sign In at the top of a page.
  2. Under Forgot your password, click Create a new one.
  3. Enter your username and email address. The address should be the one used for your account.
  4. Click Send me an email.
  5. Check your email.
  6. On the email, click the link to verify your identity.
  7. Answer your secret question.
  8. Click Check my answer.
  9. Enter your new password.
  10. Click Reset my password.
  11. Sign in.

You will receive an email confirming your password change.

You can change your password at any time.

  1. Sign in to Pay.gov.
  2. Click Go to My Account or the My Account link at the top of a page.
  3. Click Update Password.
  4. Enter your current password.
  5. Enter and confirm your new password.
  6. Click Submit.
  7. The change is immediate.

You can continue using Pay.gov, or sign out and then sign in with your new password.

To safeguard your information and account, sign out when you are finished using Pay.gov.

  1. Click Sign Out at the top of a page
  2. You are returned to Pay.gov's home page.

You can continue making any payments that do not require sign in.
