The .gov means it's official.
Federal government websites often end in .gov or .mil. Before sharing sensitive information, make sure you're on a federal government site.

The https:// ensures that you are connecting to the official website and that any information you provide is encrypted and transmitted securely.

Sign In, eMail Address, Password

Sign in only if you have a Pay.gov account. Go to Creating an Account if you need one.

Most payments can be made without an account.

Having an account gives you better control over your payments and information.

Go to Creating an Account for instructions.

Do not create an account if:

  • You will make only one payment or make payments infrequently.
    Most payments can be made without signing in.
  • You must create an account if:

    • An agency told you to create an account (register).
    • You want to schedule automatic, recurring, payments such as for a loan.
    • You want to create your payment now but want it paid on a future date (deferred payment).

    You should create an account if:

    • You are likely to make more than one payment to one or more agencies. For example, VA Medical Copayments and SBA Loan installments.
    • You want to keep a record of all your payments on Pay.gov
    • You want to save time by reusing previously submitted information.
    • You want to store payment account information, such as bank or credit account numbers, and have it automatically entered when you make a payment. Saves time and is accurate.

Your Pay.gov account must be connected through a single sign in option. If you choose to connect with an existing ID.me account, follow the steps below.

  1. Click Sign In at the top right corner of the page.
  2. The sign in page opens. Click Sign In.
  3. Click ID.me.
  4. Enter your email address and password. The email address may not include special characters such as !
  5. Check Remember me If you want ID.me to remember your identity, check Remember Me. Next time you sign in you will not need to enter a security code.
  6. Click Sign In.
  7. If needed, accept the Terms and Conditions.
  8. Choose how you will receive the security code.
  9. Enter the security code and then click Continue.
  10. You are returned to Pay.gov.
  11. To make a payment follow the instructions from the agency you owe to process your payment, or see Find a Form or Agency for assistance. To view and manage your payment information click My Account on the top right of the home page after signing in.

Login.gov will be added as a sign in option on September 16, 2023. It will not be available for sign in before then.

Your Pay.gov account must be connected through a single sign on option. If you choose to connect with an existing Login.gov account, follow the steps below.

  1. Click Sign In at the top right corner of the page.
  2. The sign in page opens. Click Sign In.
  3. Click Login.gov.
  4. Enter your email address and password. The email address may not include special characters such as !
  5. Click Sign In.
  6. If needed, accept the Rules of Use.
  7. Choose how you will receive your one-time security code.
  8. Retrieve the one-time code.
  9. Enter the security code and then click Submit.
  10. You are returned to the Pay.gov home page.
  11. To make a payment follow the instructions from the agency you owe to process your payment, or see Find a Form or Agency for assistance. To view and manage your payment information click My Account on the top right of the home page after signing in.

Checking Remember Me lets ID.me remember the device and browser just used. You will not need to enter a security code the next time you sign in.

If you sign in from another device or browser ID.me will not remember you and you will be required to receive and enter a new security code.

Both ID.me and Login.gov allow you to change your email address at any time.

  1. Go to the ID.me or Login.gov website.
  2. Click Help Center and search for Change email address.
  3. Follow the instructions.
  4. On Pay.gov sign in with the new email address.

You may not have an account, or you have not signed into Pay.gov for some time.

You can create a new account or you have the option to pay as a guest if the agency you owe does not require you to create an account on Pay.gov.

Your Account Was Deleted by Pay.gov

Your account may be deleted because it wasn't used for a long time.

If your account was deleted you will need to create a new one.

You Use ID.me to Sign In

  1. Go to the ID.me website.
  2. Click Help Center.
  3. Click "I can't sign in to my account."
  4. Follow the instructions.

You Use Login.gov to Sign In

  1. Go to the Login.gov website.
  2. Click Help Center.
  3. Click "Trouble signing in?"
  4. Follow the instructions.

You Use ID.me to Sign In

  1. Go to the ID.me website.
  2. Click Help Center.
  3. Click "I can't sign in to my account."
  4. Follow the instructions.

You Use Login.gov to Sign In

  1. Go to the Login.gov website.
  2. Click Help Center.
  3. Click "Trouble signing in?"
  4. Follow the instructions.

To safeguard your information and account, sign out when you finish using Pay.gov.

  1. Click Sign Out at the top of a page.
  2. You return to Pay.gov's home page.
  3. Leave Pay.gov or close your browser.
